A few days ago I heard one conversation that made me upset: the majority of the teenagers (and also younger children) have an individual television in their room!!!!
You could think this is not a new, but for me it is.
In my home this has been always a forbidden action. My parents always have said to us that having an individual TV would split up the family. They don't like us (my brother and me) watchig TV while we are eating all together (weekends and so) because they think this is the easiest way to break the communication between the family.
Nowdays I wonder if it is because I'm older, and I'm not living with them, but I think they have been always right.
It is true that there is not enough communication among the majority of the families in that times. The society has changed, women used to work out of home (which I think is a good improvement), children used to do lots of extra activities after school because parents don't have enough time to be with them, and people in general have long journeys work. In addition, when children arrive at home have the PC's and TV to hold their attention.
Which I want to say is that communication among the families is a value treasure that we have to preserve and having an individual TV is a way to increase the distance among the members of the family.

I used to have the TV set in the basement when my daughter lived at home. I never asked how they behave now.

Pay attention:
Where are the mistakes?
-this has been always a forbidden...
(adverb position)

- women used to work out of home (I think you mean now, not before)

-when children arrive at home have the PC's and TV (pronoun needed)

Hi!
I agree with you, we live in a society where the personal reations are in a second place. We have to believe that it can change... but what can we do?
